Odessa, TX, is the hub of the geological formation known as the Permian Basin, considered the energy epicenter of the United States. The region is home of West Texas Intermediate Crude Oil, the U.S. benchmark on which all U.S. oil prices are based, as well as alternative energy projects that include solar and wind power generation and nuclear power research. Odessa and it’s neighboring city, Midland, were listed in 2013 among the top 15 fastest-growing cities in the United States, with a combined population of more than 216,037. The counties of Ector and Midland – in which the two cities are located – have a combined population of more than 290,970. The city of Odessa is also the home to the University of Texas of the Permian Basin, Odessa College and the Texas Tech Health Sciences Center.


In addition to the health sciences center, the city boasts two top-level hospitals, privately owned Odessa Regional Medical Center and the Medical Center Health System, which serves as the Lead Level III Trauma Center for a large portion of West Texas and Southeastern New Mexico.
